Junior Eco-Club

What is the Junior Eco-Club? Junior Eco-Club Website * The Children's Eco-Club is an initiative launched by the Ministry of the Environment in 1995 to support children's voluntary environmental learning and hands-on activities in their communities, and the project is now run by the Japan Environment Association.

FY2024

Let's Eco☆Sta [KuPoGo] Newspaper / Club Name: MIYASHIRO Eco☆Stars
Details of Activities
  • Elementary, junior high, and high school students from Miyashiro Town, Saitama Prefecture, take the lead in spreading eco-activities they've planned from their club to the community.
  • Eco-cooking with local ingredients using methane gas produced from food waste, etc.
  • From the 280 entries in the "Eco Poster Contest" for Miyashiro Town, they selected the grand prize winner together with the Superintendent of Education!
  • Monthly scheduled trash pickup. In December, a trash pickup is conducted with students from the Nippon Institute of Technology.

FY2023

Our Shining Environment News / Club Name: Minamisanriku Youth Nature Investigation Team
Details of Activities
  • An eco-club (4th grade to 8th grade) formed after Shizugawa Bay was registered as a Ramsar Convention wetland
  • Aiming to realize the Ramsar Convention's philosophy (conservation and wise use of all wetlands), they experience and learn about the nature and culture of Shizugawa Bay and Minamisanriku, and share its appeal both inside and outside the town
  • They conduct ongoing activities about once a month, interacting with various organizations and people
  • They presented their research findings in their own words at the "Shizugawa Bay Ramsar Convention Registration 5th Anniversary Symposium"!

FY2022

Come Back, Lost Lotus / Club Name: Iwaki Municipal Takasaka Elementary School SDGs Team
Details of Activities
  • Since 2019, they have been cultivating at school the "ancient lotus" seeds received from Shiramizu Amidado Temple
  • After the lotuses in the Jodo garden of Shiramizu Amidado Temple drastically decreased in 2021, they proposed to the city hall that they want to help with the regeneration by transplanting the lotuses grown at their school, and the lotus regeneration project began
  • They also cooperate with neighboring schools, with over 250 participants!
  • The activities are passed on to the next grade students

Kerokero Frog Investigation Newspaper 15 / Club Name: Kamitsu Expedition Team
Details of Activities
  • The goal of our activities is to think about environmental problems by playing in the local natural environment
  • The activity started by neighborhood elementary school students is now in its 20th year
  • A total of 40 activities were conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • They have been maintaining "frog land" (a biotope) for generations, and their wildlife observation sites like "freshwater crab land" are expanding.
  • From this year, a kindergarten division was newly established, expanding the member base

Himeshiro Junior High Eco Newspaper: The Whole School Engages in Eco-Activities / Club Name: Himeshiro Junior High School Hime-Bora (Miyakonojo City,Miyazaki Prefecture)
Details of Activities
  • Himeshiro Junior High Volunteer (Hime-Bora) is an eco-activity that the entire school participates in
  • A reuse activity where they make cleaning rags from unused cloth and donate them to the community
  • Inter-class eco-cap collection competition, toilet cleaning without using detergent, lectures on the local environment, etc.
  • They practice long-standing eco-activities passed down from their seniors

Us and our Friends in Danburi Pond / Club Name: HEP21 Eco-Club (Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture)
Details of Activities
  • Creating a newspaper from children’s perspective about environmental activities at the local Danburi Pond
  • Turning monthly eco-activities into picture diaries for newspaper articles
  • Through collecting rainwater, a tradition passed down for 16 years since its inception, they have been steadily accumulating rainfall data this year as well
  • Observing the pond's pH value throughout the year in cooperation with a university
