Our Focus on Social Issues

In today’s world, companies are expected to vigorously fulfill their responsibility to help deal with pressing environment-related issues such as climate change and diminishing natural resources from the perspectives of both environmental and economic sustainability. In recent years, individual countries have accelerated their efforts to strengthen regulations surrounding issues such as marine plastic, harmful chemicals and waste contamination. If companies do not take action to alleviate these problems, they could risk infringing compliance rules or damaging their brand value.
Furthermore, consumers, retail stores and other stakeholders are displaying increasingly ethical values in their purchasing decisions, and companies must take action to satisfy these needs.

Approach and Policies
for Achieving Our CSR Vision

Making sure we pass on sustainable local communities and environments to future generations in which children can smile and enjoy playing with toys is extremely important to the TOMY Group. As stated in our Code of Conduct, “we will be considerate of resources and the natural environment,” and we have indeed taken action to reduce environmental impacts through our Eco Toy activities and other initiatives.
Going forward, we intend to conduct more systematic environmental management based on our recently determined TOMY Group Environmental Policy. In recent years, people have become more interested in plastic use. This is an extremely difficult issue for us. Plastic is a strong and safe material that can guarantee consistent quality. It is also easy to color and mold, which enables us to expand the type of play opportunities we can offer, so it is an essential material for toy manufacturing. However, we are exploring ways to reduce the use of single-use plastics in packaging and persistently researching alternatives to plastics in our products.

TOMY Group Environmental Policy(Established in May 2020)

In order to protect our environment so that children around the world can continue to enjoy playing with toys 100 years from now, we seek to minimize the environmental impact of our business operations and help spark children’s awareness of the environment through their most familiar items—toys.

    We build and promote environment management systems and strive to reduce environmental impact by consistently maintaining and improving those systems.

  2. 2. Adhere to environmental laws and regulations

    We adhere to applicable laws and regulations, and also seek to accurately grasp societal demands to determine and uphold internal standards.

  3. 3. Establish, implement and verify environmental targets

    We set, implement and regularly review environmental targets.

  4. 4. Offer environment-conscious products and services

    We promote the provision of environment-conscious products and services, and seek to effectively utilize resources and consider environmental impact in our product manufacturing. Within the TOMY Group business activities, we strive to counteract climate change, conserve resources and energy, prevent pollution, and reduce and recycle waste.

  5. 5. Conduct environmental activities befitting a toy company

    We provide opportunities for children to consider the global environment and foster creativity.
    We communicate with children and listen to their opinions in order to create new values.

  6. 6. Reduce environmental impact by cooperating with business partners

    We cooperate with our business partners in a joint effort to reduce environmental impact at every stage from purchasing through to customer provision.

  7. 7. Thoroughly publicize and promote understanding of environmental policy

    We make sure this environmental policy is well understood by all employees and executives, including those at affiliated companies.
    We also promote educational and awareness-raising activities to ensure everyone can understand and implement the policy.
    Anyone can freely browse the environmental policy, which is available on request.

Management Structure

Our CSR Promotion Department is the main driver of our efforts to build an environmental management framework and set targets and KPI.
Our Consolidated General Affairs and Human Resources Group and the management offices of affiliated companies operate and manage measures for dealing with individual environment-related issues, such as the handling of industrial waste. The department responsible for promoting corporate citizenship offer outreach programs, such as school visits, to build awareness of environmental issues among children.
