Asobi that is Safe, Secure, and of High Quality (Corporate Ethics)

Our Policy and Strategy

With the goal of fostering an ethical corporate culture that is in step with the times, the TOMY Group promotes relevant initiatives throughout the Group, such as developing internal regulations and creating structures to apply them.
We are particularly conscious of the influence we may exert on children and other users through merchandizing and media expressions, and we are working to fulfill our Sustainability Vision 2030 of being “A creator of quality Asobi that promotes the sustainable well-being of society.”
Our basic policy on merchandizing and media expressions is that “We aim to create safe and secure brands and products from not only a quality perspective but also an ethical perspective, with consideration for children, who are particularly susceptible to the influence of expressions in products and media.” We provide ethical responses suitable to the target age ranges for our products and media.
We have established internal regulations regarding merchandizing and media selection by the TOMY Group, as well as expressions used in media. In addition, we have established specific rules regarding expressions, with particular consideration for the target age range.

Management Structure

The corporate ethics department within the Sustainability Promotion Division is the main department in charge of the operation and promotion of internal regulations that govern the ethics of merchandizing and media expressions.
The head of the implementation department is responsible for ensuring that decisions on merchandizing, selection of individual media, and expressions used in media comply with our regulations. In addition, we have also taken steps such as creating guidelines for providing ethical responses suitable to the target age ranges for our products and media, utilizing a thorough checking system with multiple people, and having ethics specialists available for inquiries within the corporate ethics department. The advertising and public relations department provides information and support from the perspective of expression techniques, media characteristics, and expertise.
Furthermore, when decisions of greater importance are required, we obtain the opinions of experts from third-party organizations. The Managing Directors’ Meeting, the Risk/Compliance Committee, or both of these bodies then deliberate on important risk/compliance issues, and if necessary, the results of these deliberations are reported to the Board of Directors.

Key Initiatives

Target Age Range Establishment and Considerations from an Ethical Perspective

The TOMY Group establishes appropriate target age ranges not only from a quality perspective but also from an ethical perspective, with consideration for children, who are particularly susceptible to the influence of expressions in products and media.
We have established specific rules and check gates that match the growth stages of young people and the ethical standards demanded by society, and we have also established target age ranges from an ethical perspective.
For products where target age ranges have been established from an ethical perspective, we ensure that they are advertised in media appropriate for the target age range, and on our own Internet media, we display warnings (such as age verification on official websites and comments on official social media pages) where necessary to ensure that the target age range is clear. In doing so, we strive to provide safe, secure, and high-quality Asobi.

In-house Training and Support Tools for Promoting Corporate Ethics

The TOMY Group holds ethics training for all employees working for the Group in Japan and overseas with the aim of learning about ethical products and media expressions for the healthy growth of children and ensuring awareness of regulations and rules. We also conduct in-house training tailored to different employment levels, such as training for management as well as department heads who are responsible for merchandizing and media expressions.
In addition, we conduct ongoing awareness-raising activities such as creating internal guidelines and glossaries and sending out monthly email newsletters as support tools to help employees deepen their understanding of ethical issues and apply it to their work.
